Bouwer Architects is a young, innovative group of professional architects and interior designers dedicated to honesty in practice and design.

Established in 2003 by Hannes Bouwer, Bouwer Architects are based in the Tyger Lake Building, the firm’s first award winning mixed-use project situated in the Tyger Falls precinct in Cape Town, South Africa.

To succeed in reconciling the often contradictory limits of site, the environment, budget and aesthetic ambition we have to be at the forefront of innovation. The realities of rising construction costs and the need for sustainable design in the face of diminishing natural resources provides a unique challenge to building professionals.

"We are motivated to accept this challenge" Hannes Bouwer

Our preferred architectural expression is an honest celebration of the unique characteristics of construction materials. Structural elements, whether it be steel, timber, brick or concrete are frequently left exposed. Carefully proportioned and detailed structures are beautiful in themselves and don’t need excessive decoration. We do however appreciate good examples of a variety of architectural genres, and as Capetonians support suitable new expressions of our vernacular tradition.

Our design teams are skilful in the use of the latest software to effectively communicate design intent to clients and other members of the professional team. To ensure consistency and personal service, the assigned team sees a project through from beginning to end.

Hannes Bouwer (Pr Arch), architect and designer is the managing principal of Bouwer Architects. He works closely with clients and is personally involved in all stages of projects. Hannes Bouwer completed his Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture degrees at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. Hannes was awarded a merit bursary from the university during his studies and also completed his thesis cum laude.

National and international project experience encompasses a broad spectrum of architectural and planning activities, including hotels, shopping centres, mixed-use developments, retirement villages, up-market dwellings, low & middle income residential developments and farm developments.
